An audio track in the Tamil language has been dubbed for Hollywood movies, which have been viewed by millions of people across the world. Not only do these films offer an insight into Indian culture, but they help teach English language skills to those who are learning it as a second language. The audio is taken from Tamil programs that are broadcast on Deutsche Welle TV and Radio Liberty. Many feel that this is a positive result of globalization. The catch, however, is that the programs are not subtitled, which could hinder the appreciation of the language. The Hindi or Punjabi languages are spoken by many people in India. Both languages are spoken only in India. The exact number of speakers of both languages is hard to come by due to lack of census data. Nevertheless, Hindi is spoken by an estimated 900 million people (Bhatti 2015) and Punjabi has around 100 million speakers (Bharatiya Kendra 2015). The two languages are also very similar. Both belong to the Indo-Aryan language family, which is not closely related to other Indo-European languages like English or Hindi. This similarity has helped unite people in South Asia that do not speak the same language. The Punjabi language was first introduced by Guru Nanak, who converted Hindus to Sikhism in East Punjab around 1500 (Bhatti 2015). The word "Sikh" means learner or student. The Sikh religion doesn't make any difference between Sikhs and non-Sikhs, but it does make a difference between men and women. Punjabi is the only language which has more than one script. The Gurmukhi script was developed in the 16th century by Guru Angad, while the Shahmukhi script is derived from Arabic. Both scripts are used in India and Pakistan. The Punjabi language contains 45 letters, including 36 consonants and nine vowels. There are five short vowels (a, ā, e, i, o) and three long ones (ā, ī , u). Although Punjabi has many consonants, it is considered a relatively easy language to learn because it contains only three tones. Punjabi also has a well-developed verbal system. Verbs have four moods: active, passive, present and past. The Prakrit language is spoken by many people in South Asia. It is a well-developed language that is closely related to the classical Sanskrit language. In fact, the two languages share many words and grammatical rules. The number of speakers of Prakrit languages is not known; however, there was rough estimate of about 1 million speakers for this language (Bhatti 2015). cfa1e77820
